Coxswaination was founded in 2004 by Yasmin Farooq and Roger Waterman. The mission of this company is to provide coxswains with information and tools that will directly impact and improve their performance. If you are a recreational, high school, collegiate, or masters cox, Coxswaination is committed to helping you become a first-rate coxswain, and a valued contributor to your team.

About Yasmin:

Yasmin "Yaz" Farooq was the coxswain for the United States National Women's Eight from 1989 to 1996. She earned her first Olympic berth at the 1992 Games in Barcelona and four years later was named captain of the women's rowing team at the Atlanta Olympics.

A three-time winner of silver medals at three World Championships in 1990, 1993 and 1994, Yaz’s career highlight came in 1995 when her eight captured the gold medal at the Worlds in Tampere, Finland. It marked the first time ever the United States women had won.

Yaz started coxing at the University of Wisconsin in 1984, where she was recruited for her "big voice" and tiny stature (she is 5-foot 4-inches on a good day and 105 pounds.) She was voted captain and MVP her senior year. Yaz is the third coxswain from Wisconsin to make an Olympic team.

Today, Yaz coxes and coaches the Oregon Association of Rowers masters in Eugene, Oregon. She also works as a personal coach for high school and collegiate coxswains and presents clinics on a variety of coxing topics. Yaz served as color commentator for both NBC’s telecast of the XXVII Olympiad in Sydney and the XXVIII Olympiad in Athens.

About Roger:

Roger Waterman is a veteran cameraman and video editor with over 20 years in television. He has won an Emmy Award and numerous Associated Press awards for his Sports and News camera work and editing. His video has appeared on all of the major American networks including ESPN, CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS, and FOX and on Australia’s Channel 7 to name a few.

Roger’s work in television has included camera operator at live sporting events, news videography, as well as shooter and editor for corporate videos and TV commercials. His ability to make electronic gear work in adverse conditions and situations has led to his “MacGyver” reputation. Over a period of four years, Roger designed and perfected the “YazCam,” the coxswain camera that Yaz wears in all of her racing videos.

Roger currently works for the Oregon Sports Network and has been the rowing still photographer for NBCOlympics.com the past two Olympics.
