HAWAIIAN HISTORY

Clarke found the history of Oahu and Hawaii, in general, pretty interesting. In light of the fact that not everyone will share this sentiment, here is the reasonably abridged version of the island and the state (with a major nod to the Lonely Planet and Moon travel handbooks which supplied the information). This makes for a nice backdrop on some of our activities...

CHAPTER ONE: The Gathering Place

Oahu is known as "The Gathering Place" -- home to more than 880,000 people, which is nearly 75% of the state of Hawaii's population. Compared to the population, almost seven times as many people visit during the year!
